Using iProxy with Wireless Router

If you’re only relying on iProxy and you have a wireless router you can configure the router, your computer and iPhone to play together which makes connecting easier and faster compared to hosting the network on your computer.
Your router hosts the network so all you have to do is to join to the network with your computer and iPhone, launch iProxy and all is sorted. It actually feels faster when the network is not hosted on your computer.

    Configure Router:

  1. Go to Router’s internet preferences
  2. Configure IPv4 manually — instead of automatic which is the default on routers — and set the Router’s IP (eg. 10.0.0.1) and Subnet Mask (eg. 255.255.255.0).
  3. If not automatically set, make your router as a DHCP host (ie. make sure your Router distributes the IP addresses).
    Configure Your iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and join your network
  2. After joining the network, open the network preferences and set your IP as Static instead of DHCP.
  3. Set your IP address manually to next of the router IP or far away from the router’s IP (eg. 10.0.0.2 or 10.0.0.255)
  4. Match subnet with the Router’s subnet (eg. 255.255.255.0).
    Your Computer:

  1. Join your network.
  2. Go to your network settings and setup a proxy (you might want to follow instructions of iProxy here).
  3. Enable SOCKS Proxy and set the Proxy server address to what you gave for the iPhone. Set port to 8888
  4. Enable settings, lauch iProxy on iPhone and you’re good to go every time you join this network.

Added VPN instructions
Configuring VPN to go through a proxy is often a painful process. The easiest way to do it is to configure the VPN on your iPhone and let it take care of it. The iPhone even takes care of the DNS handling. If you don’t have VPN setup already on the phone and need it, the easiest way to configure it is through iPhone Configuration Utility and send it to your iPhone.
Only thing you need to remember with this setup is to open VPN-connection before opening iProxy.
